TERPNET Career Opportunity Bulletin Board

To support the distribution of career opportunity notices for the TERPNET conference participants and the wider community of “terpene” investigators, the executive committee will be hosting a temporary website at the TERPNET 2013 homepage (http://terpnet2013.pharm.auth.gr). Notices should include a short description (<400 words) of the available position(s) with a hotlink providing interested parties additional information about the position and the application process. A second section of the bulletin board welcomes individuals seeking positions to post their name, academic status, seeking positions in specific areas, and an email address for additional information (limited to 100 words). Please send your job opportunity or seeking opportunity notice to Joe Chappell (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). We will keep the bulletin board updated until Oct. 1st, 2013.

Job Opportunities:

Vacancy/postdoc offer Terpene metabolic engineering

I am looking for a highly motivated candidate with PhD in plant molecular biology and good track record (≥6 accepted publications) from within or without Europe to apply for a Marie Curie fellowship to come and work in the Bouwmeester lab for a period of two years on metabolic engineering of terpenoids. We can decide on the exact research questions together. They could be: biosynthesis, metabolon formation, and transport and sequestration issues; related to the production of pharmaceutical terpenoids such as artemisinin and parthenolide or herbivory-induced volatiles.

The lab is very well equipped and consists of an international group of postdocs, PhD students and students from all over the world (currently 15 nationalities). The Marie Curie fellowship consists of a two-year position as postdoc with attractive salary. In case you perform well we can probably extend the position after the Marie Curie funding has expired by attracting new funding. The next deadline for Marie Curie applications is 14 August 2013.

Vacancy/postdoc offer strigolactones

I am looking for a highly motivated candidate with PhD in plant molecular biology and good track record (≥6 accepted publications) from within or without Europe to apply for a Marie Curie fellowship to come and work in the Bouwmeester lab for a period of two years on strigolactones. We can decide on the exact research questions together. They could be: the further elucidation of strigolactone biosynthesis and signalling, the role of strigolactones in regulating plant and root architecture and the regulation of strigolactone biosynthesis and perception in parasitic plants.

Postdoctoral Research Position Available

We are seeing applicants with a background in molecular biology and biochemistry to fill a funded postdoctoral position, available immediately. Research in the Odom lab is focused on the regulation and inhibition of isoprenoid biosynthesis in pathogenic microorganisms, as well as identification of downstream isoprenoid products and microbial terpene synthases. The exact research project will depend on the skills and interests of the successful candidate. For more information, see: http:// research.peds.wustl.edu/labs/odom_a

Washington University School of Medicine is home to a very diverse and active research community, ranking highly among U.S. medical schools. Washington University is located in St. Louis, MO, a metropolitan area with a high quality of life and very low cost of living.

Applicants must have a strong peer-reviewed publication record and outstanding work ethic. Prior microbiology experience is not required. To apply, please email the following materials in one PDF file to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.: 1) Cover letter indicating career goals and expected availability date; 2) CV; 3) Names and contact details of three references.

Seeking Job Opportunities:

Usman Arif, Ph.D. Plant Physiology (Completed on 29th May, 2013), Thesis title: Effect of wounding and light exposure on sterol, glycoalkaloid and calystegine levels in potato plants (Solanum tuberosum L. group Tuberosum), Swedish University of Agricultural sciences, Uppsala, Sweden. During my Ph.D, I was working on MVA pathway with emphasis on biosynthesis of phytosterols that are important membrane components and play a vital role in plant growth and development. I am interested in postdoctoral opportunities to further develop my molecular biology/genomic skills in general and possibly to participate in the development of new synthetic biology/production platforms.
